Why LED Lights? What Are Its Advantages Against Traditional Lighting?
As the current economic climate continues so many homeowners are seeking out ways to make sure that the money they have available works that little bit further. So accordingly they are now looking for options that can help them minimize the costs of basically running a home. One way that this can be realized is with the use of LED lighting.
Not only does this kind of lighting need to use less energy in order to power it but also is perfect for lasting considerably longer than standard lighting can. Actually as a testament to its performance the state of California in the USA is along the way of introducing a law that will ban the use of incandescent lighting this year.
So what normally are the differences between LED (light emitting diodes) and standard lighting that has caused California decide to ban their use? Underneath we take a look at just a few of these differences.
Difference 1- With the traditional incandescent lamps for the light to be created energy must go over a very thin element to heat it to a high enough temperature that results in light being discharged from it. The problem with this method is that around 98% of all the energy used to create the light it emits is basically lost in the form of heat. Normally such lamps would be expected to work for about 1,000 hours before they need to be changed.
Difference 2 - All LED lamps are not fitted with any filaments or tubes inside them so the possibility of them breaking is greatly reduced. In fact the lifespan of these forms of bulbs when used in light fittings in the home is considerably more. In many cases they are able to produce light for about 50,000 hours before they need to be replaced. This equates to them having a lifetime of around 10 years.
Difference 3 - This type of lighting may be smaller than other kinds but you will find that it is able to emit light for each unit of current used. So of course this in turn ensures that it is the most energy saving form of lighting you can get and use in your home or business now. In fact if you were just to convert one light source in your home from traditional to LED lighting then you can save up to 30% each year on your utility bill. So just think what would happen if you chose to change every single bulb in your residence over to the LED type.
Difference 4 - You will realize that the amount of heat that LED lights emits is just nothing and so there is no risk to them causing a fire to take place in your house should the light remain on for too long.
Initially when LED lighting bulbs became available we were restricted to only the kind of bulbs that you would have in light fixtures in your home. However with developments in LED technology today that this type of lights can be used in many different ways. There are LED bulbs for cars, torches and also lights that you place around your Christmas tree.
